Sunday 14th May, 6.30pm – 8.00pm Followed by drinks with the St Johns Choral Scholars
Following the restoration of its historic organ, St John’s Notting Hill has a blossoming, high-quality music programme, with four Choral Scholars regularly and beautifully singing at services, accompanied by the restored organ played by the Organ Scholar. A favourite service for music lovers in particular is Choral Evensong, which usually occurs at St John’s on the first Sunday of each month at 6.30pm, lasting for about 45 minutes. The music is very lyrical and expressive in this service. The Restoration of the historic 1794 Grade II* listed Gray organ, originally from Holy Trinity Clapham, heralds a new chapter in the life of St John Notting Hill. With generous assistance from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the organ has been completely restored, put in a new case, and relocated in the North Transept. We have created an exhibition around the organ, tracing its history and the story of Notting Hill, narratives which are intertwined.
