Silent Film: Show People
Saturday 28th April at 8.00pm - 9.15pm
doors open at 7.00pm
This classic silent film comedy stars Marion Davies and William Haines and is directed by King Vidor. Show People is a gentle ribbing of 1920s Hollywood and includes many cameos from the era’s stars, including Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, William S. Hart and John Gilbert. Marion Davies has great fun sending up the various acting styles of the time, and the film takes humorous aim at the divide between comedy and high art with a delightful mix of slapstick, romance and drama.
It will be accompanied on the restored church organ by Donald MacKenzie, resident organist at the Odeon Leicester Square. The organ at St John's Notting Hill was restored in 2014 with support from National Lottery players via a £373,500 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
